An XM-L2 Cree LED provides an output of 550 lumens. This is matched with an elliptical beam of 16° vertical and 24° horizontal, allowing you to be seen, from multiple angles, by other road users, at over 1000m.
The lithium ion battery is rechargeable from a waterproof USB port on the rear of the light and with a 7hr full charge, maintains consistent brightness throughout the specified run-time. Up to 1.8 hours in High Beam, 3.5 hours in Medium Beam, 7.9 hours in Low Beam and 17 hours in Flashing mode.
A long button push on (0.75sec) prevents accidental activation of your light. Short presses switch modes continuously. Similarly, the light is switched off with a long button push off (0.5sec). There is a low battery indicator and a storage mode. Activated when the light will not be used for a period of time to optimise battery longevity.
Made with a UV-resistant, industrial-grade, silicone rubber body and straps, polycarbonate housing, PMMA lens, anodised aluminium heat sink, anodised aluminium fascia and solid stainless steel MIM latch.
The Blinder Arc 5.5 has been tested rigerously; Drop tests, corrosion tests, UV tests, Electrical shock and static, vibration and impact, temperature and humidity, cycle testing and CE certification.
Cycle light technology has moved on greatly over the years, traditional 'bulb' lights have been more or less replaced by LED and HID systems. Battery, lens and reflector technology has been improved greatly resulting in brighter and longer run times. Wiggle lists a large selection of bicycle lights suitable for lit streets in the city, or unlit country lanes and even bike lights suitable for off road riding, ranging from around £8 to over £300 they vary greatly in purpose and performance. Tiny LED's with flashing or constant modes are great for being seen in built up areas, whilst rechargeable systems can keep the road or off-road trails lit up for non-stop riding at night.
